Final session of the year brings new volunteers into the AGHR family
We had a great time 9/14/19 with our final Volunteer Training of 2019 with some of our new volunteers! We studied equine body language, non-verbal communication, knots, tools, tying, pressure/release, phases of pressure, equine safety, grooming, hoof handling, leading/backing, moving hind and fore quarters, Parelli Natural Horsemanship Squeeze Game, approach/retreat, and catching difficult-to-catch horses. All in all, we got good feedback, formed some great collaboration and communication skills with our volunteers and made some new friends while working with 2 left-brained extroverts and 2 right-brained introverts rescue equines. We are proud to have such a great group of volunteers with our program and look forward to more Experiential Learning Trainings in 2020, as well as 3 professional training clinics with Susan Nelson Thibault, 4-Star Parelli Professional Training next year!
All natural equine product line equi-spa to donate products to animal guardians horse rescue
Equi-Spa, a manufacturer of natural equine products, will be donating items to Animal Guardians Horse Rescue. Some of the products that this line offers include muscle wash, anti-itch gels and cleansing sprays. Equi-Spa products are advertised as being gentle and effective, which is an idea that we love. We are excited to try these products on our deserving senior rescues.
Update, September 18, 2019: After using Equi-Spa all natural horse products for awhile, we have decided to stick with our original fly spray, Bronco Gold, for two reasons: the Equi-Spa has a very strong peppermint smell which works well on flies but bothers our horses and makes them itchy and want to rub it off immediately after application; the nozzle on the Equi-Spa Summer Protection Spray bottle is stream only, which doesn't mist over the horse's coat. This makes our horses more weary and apprehensive of the use of this product and fearful to stand still while we apply it. Since our horses are all seniors over the age of 25, we do not want to add stress to their daily routine. We did change the nozzle head and they seem to tolerate the application better, but the smell seems to bother them and make them want to roll or rub their bodies on a fence soon after application. So we have decided not to continue ordering this product for summer fly protection. We do love the other products and they seem to work well, but they all have a strong peppermint smell, which initially bothers and concerns our horses, but after washed off, the horses relax and enjoy the cool feeling of it. Overall, we believe in the use of all-natural products and would recommend use of Equi-Spa to the public. We thank Sherie and Equi-Spa for donating some samples for us to try!
