meet barrister, our spring horse of the month!Barrister is a 21-year-old Thoroughbred Cross gelding, 16hh and sweet as pie. He is a gentle giant who loves people and attention, lives alone without concern for other horses, stands nicely for grooming and ground handling, and walks nicely on leadline on street trails (with no rider). Barrister is current on everything, barefoot, and friendly. Barrister has one "very large flaw" and that is he has Apteism, a condition with scar tissue on his sheath making it impossible for him to retract his penis. It does not hurt or bother him at all, and the Shelter Vet said he had this condition for years, with no medication or maintenance required. He is a happy go lucky guy with no problems urinating, rolling and just being a horse. Barrister will be participating in the Humane Society of the United States Forever Foundation Training Program this year and may be coming available for adoption in a the near future. He will participate in the National Adoption Challenge Showcase with the HSUS and Carter Ranch Horse. Barrister currently makes a lovely companion/ground work horse. Saddle training is not guaranteed through our rescue. Keep your eye on Barrister for future adoption availability. If you are interested in this sweet boy now, please turn in an application, which is available on our Resources page, and we may consider him adoptable to the right home. Natural Horsemanship experience and training preferred.
