AGHR Foster and pony win HSUS Forever foundation training program farrier event showcaseCongratulations Rusty and his Foster Caregiver, Lori Warling! This dynamic duo pony-person team won the national Humane Society of the United States Forever Foundation Training Program 60 Day Challenge Preparation For Farrier Event Showcase in August 2021! Lori has won a Lead Rope and Halter Prize for AGHR! Great Job. Natural Horsemanship Groundwork Training Pays Off.
Rusty: 60 day challenge completedWe are proud to announce that Rusty has completed his first 60 Day Challenge activity with the Humane Society of the United States Forever Foundation Training Program. His foster boarding partner, Lori Warling, has really enjoyed working with him through the Ground Work Level and Rusty has progressed from a "blue" (knowing nothing), to a "yellow" (fairly well schooled) little pony. Rusty and Lori enjoyed working together daily to complete various natural horsemanship ground work activities using Parelli Natural Horsemanship tools and Carter Ranch Horse training techniques. Rusty is a much more solid and tolerant pony, and with expanded knowledge, is now being offered as a therapy pony for our Horse Powered Reading Equine Assisted Learning Program. This has been a great experience for our Foster and her equine companion! Learn more about this program at www.hsusforeverfoundation.org.
aghr enters the world of horse powered readingHorse Powered ReadingWe are thrilled to announce that we are offering Experiential Equine Assisted Learning and Horse Powered Reading beginning in June 2021! Our Director, Deborah Greene-Dellvon, has completed a course to become a Horse Powered Reading Facilitator. This amazing course was offered through Cross P Ranch and Concordia University and was developed by Dr. Michele Pickel, offering Equine Assisted Learning to use in the classroom or EAL arena setting. This course adheres to EAGALA standards, and makes reading skills visible and physical for all students. By becoming a HPR Facilitator, Deborah hopes to break-through social-emotional barriers through active engagement in literacy activities using some of the rescue horses/ponies in our organization as Teachers and interactive Support Providers to youth in need. We are very excited about the impact that our senior equines can make on our community and look forward to some summer activities involving Horse Powered Reading. You can learn more at www.horsepoweredreading.com. We are actively recruiting new Volunteers to participate in Program Development Planning and assisting with Horse Powered Reading this summer. Contact us to join this program committee! For more information on Horse Powered Reading and how to register, click here.

His untimely passing has come as a surprise and saddens us deeply. We give thanks and loving support to his surviving daughter Nicole, and wife Karen, who have been long term supporters and large donor-sponsors of our rescue horses. We wish peace and healing to the Diem family at this very difficult time. May time heal the emptiness and may memories bring comfort.

Go to greatnonprofits.org/org/animal-guardians-horse-rescue-inc to get started! meet barrister, our spring horse of the month!Barrister is a 21-year-old Thoroughbred Cross gelding, 16hh and sweet as pie. He is a gentle giant who loves people and attention, lives alone without concern for other horses, stands nicely for grooming and ground handling, and walks nicely on leadline on street trails (with no rider). Barrister is current on everything, barefoot, and friendly. Barrister has one "very large flaw" and that is he has Apteism, a condition with scar tissue on his sheath making it impossible for him to retract his penis. It does not hurt or bother him at all, and the Shelter Vet said he had this condition for years, with no medication or maintenance required. He is a happy go lucky guy with no problems urinating, rolling and just being a horse. Barrister will be participating in the Humane Society of the United States Forever Foundation Training Program this year and may be coming available for adoption in a the near future. He will participate in the National Adoption Challenge Showcase with the HSUS and Carter Ranch Horse. Barrister currently makes a lovely companion/ground work horse. Saddle training is not guaranteed through our rescue. Keep your eye on Barrister for future adoption availability. If you are interested in this sweet boy now, please turn in an application, which is available on our Resources page, and we may consider him adoptable to the right home. Natural Horsemanship experience and training preferred.
